Who we are

(Photo of Chris Henry)Henry Manufacturing Ltd is a family owned business. I established the company in 2003 to complete commercialisation of pesticide discoveries I made in the early 1990s.

Both discoveries were a consequence of efforts to produce citrus of a high cosmetic standard within the organic standards laid down by BioGro™ and Demeter. The use of them allowed mandarins to meet the phytosanitary standards for export as certified organic to Japan.

My commercial growing career began in the mid 1980s when I set up a commercial citrus orchard on an 11ha property at Awhitu (Manukau Harbour, South Head), Auckland.

In recent years, I have been involved in the conversion and management of an organic vineyard in Hawke’s Bay and on-going implementation of ‘low input’ spray programs within ‘conventional’ grape growing.

I remain directly involved in research in grape growing and other major crops. My main function within the company is to provide technical support to growers and distributors.

My overriding philosophy is that growing should be an activity that neither degrades the land or poisons the grower – and that many workable low impact disease solutions are awaiting discovery. All that is lacking is the determination to look for them and the determination to make them available to growers at a usable price. I know there are no ‘silver bullets’.
